Awards - Issue 4

Tom Huff and sculpturesBeginning with its first issue in 2007, Stone Canoe has awarded yearly prizes for exemplary work submitted to the journal by emerging writers or artists in the categories of fiction, poetry, and visual arts. Beginning with our 2011 issue, we are adding an additional prize, the S.I. Newhouse School Prize for Nonfiction. Submission of a single work of nonfiction or fiction, three poems, or three works of visual art in any medium will qualify for consideration in the respectivee genres. No additional fee or application is required.

An additional prize, the Burton Blatt Insititute Prize for Arts Leadership, is awarded each year to an individual who exemplies the value of inclusiveness within the arts community.

All prize winners receive $500 and a bronze replica of the original stone canoe carving by Tom Huff (shown at left).



The 2010 Allen and Nirelle Galson Prize for Fiction is awarded to Sarah Layden.

The 2010 Bea Gonzalez Prize for Poetry is awarded to Juliana Gray.

The 2010 Hedy and Michael Fawcett Prize for Visual Arts is awarded to Emily Farranto.

The 2010 Burton Blatt Institute Prize for Arts Leadership is awarded to Megan Muldoon.
